Grinding Stone and Pestle
Previously, a grinding stone and pestle were used to make chutneys or preparations for meals. They were made from stone. The grinding stone is a flat-shaped stone, called “Pata,” and the pestle is a round or elongated stone, called “Varavanta.” The chutney ingredients were placed on the grinding stone, and with the pressure applied by the pestle, they were ground into a paste. This method has now been replaced by using a mixer.
