Jata (Hand Mill)

Jata, too, was made from stone. It was used to grind rice and various lentils. Women from the village would gather together, rotate the Jata in a circular motion, and sing songs while grinding the lentils. This space for Jata is now taken over by mills or grinding machines. Nowadays, Jata is usually seen in traditional wedding ceremonies.
